Qaḍāʾ of Ṣalāhs and Fasts for a Revert or Convert

Question:

Country: Canada

1. If a person accepts Islam all his previous sins are forgiven what about fast, salah and hajj? I mean for example if a person accepts lslam at age of 40, does he have to make qadha for fard salah, fasts etc for the period when he was non muslim?

2. When we recite 1st kalimah should we say sallallahu alayhi wasallm every time we recite 1st kalimah or its is not compulsory?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

1. A revert/convert does not have to make qaḍāʾ for the ṣalāhs & fasts prior to accepting Islām as they were not farḍ on him.

2. It is not necessary to recite ṣalawāt (durūd sharīf) on hearing the kalimah. If one does so, it is an act of virtue & expression of his love for Rasūlullāh (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam).

And Allah knows best
