Question:
Is it Bid’ah to visit the Qabrastān (graveyard) on Eid day? I hear some say you shouldn’t go. Is that true?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
It is permissible to visit the Qabrastān (graveyard) on the days of ‘Īd. As long as one does not regard it as something sanctioned in the Sunnah or compulsory in Dīn, it will not be regarded as Bid‘ah. In fact, some have even considered it as Mustaḥab.[1]
The rationale behind such permissibility is to remind oneself of the Ākhirah (hereafter) even on a joyous occasion like ‘Īd, wherein people usually become oblivious of the realities of life and remain engrossed in rejoicing the day. [2]

قال في الهندية : وأفضل أيام الزيارة أربعة يوم الاثنين والخميس والجمعة والسبت والزيارة يوم الجمعة بعد الصلاة حسن ويوم السبت إلى طلوع الشمس ويوم الخميس في أول النهار وقيل في آخر النهار وكذا في الليالي المتبركة لا سيما ليلة براءة وكذلك في الأزمنة المتبركة كعشر ذي الحجة والعيدين وعاشوراء.
