Vow Regarding Marriage

by | 1 Sep 2020 | Marriage, Oaths & Vows, Q&A

Question:

I made promise with Allah that I will only marry with my cousin. But she refused to marry me becuase of my mistake. What should I do to marry someone else? How Allah will forgive me? Is there any solution? I want Allah to forgive me about my promise. I was insane.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

The promise to marry your cousin sister is not a bonafide vow in sharī‘ah as it is not a purposeful act of worship (‘ibādah maqṣūdah). You do not have to give a penalty/compensation for not marrying your cousin sister.

However, make taubah and repent to Allah for any violation of sharī‘ah. Allah is Most Forgiving & Most Merciful.

And Allah knows best
